American chipmaker Nvidia is on the verge of locking in a major expansion of its operations in Israel, signalling one of the most significant foreign tech investments in the country’s history.

According to industry sources, Nvidia is expected to finalise a deal in the coming days to acquire land at Kiryat Tivon, near Haifa, where it will build a large new research and development campus. The company is reported to be paying around NIS 90 million (before VAT) plus infrastructure costs for the first parcel of land, which covers roughly 90 dunams (approx 22.5 acres), with plans for a much larger high-tech zone known as Tivon Tech Park.

The new site is expected to host thousands of jobs and form the heart of Nvidia’s expanded presence in Israel, complementing existing facilities across the country. Prime ministerial and regional officials have welcomed the move, viewing it as a vote of confidence in Israel’s tech sector amid continued geopolitical tensions.

Nvidia’s roots in Israel stretch back to its acquisition of Mellanox Technologies in 2020, a deal worth nearly $7 billion that helped establish the country as a significant innovation hub for the company. Since then, the firm’s Israeli workforce has grown to over 5,000 employees, making it one of the company’s largest R&D centres globally.

Beyond the planned northern campus, Nvidia is also investing heavily in the south of the country. A new Be’er Sheva development hub will triple in size to around 3,000 sqm, with hundreds of new engineering jobs expected when it reaches full capacity by mid-2026.

Industry analysts say the expansion highlights Israel’s role in the global AI and semiconductor ecosystems, given the local expertise in high-end chip design, networking hardware and advanced computing technologies. The planned campus could ultimately cover up to 180,000 sqm of facilities and house thousands of engineers, significantly boosting local employment and reinforcing Israel’s position as a leading tech centre.

For Nvidia, this move represents more than just expansion: it solidifies a long-term strategic commitment to innovation outside the United States and deepens ties with Israeli technology clusters that have helped pioneer key AI and data-centre technologies.
